Maha Kumbh Draws Millions to Prayagraj

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, one of the largest religious gatherings globally, has commenced in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, attracting millions of devotees from across India and abroad, with over 400 million expected to attend over 45 days, highlighting its significance as a major Hindu festival.

The festival, which began on January 13 and will continue until February 26, features several key bathing days, including Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Maghi Purnima, and Maha Shivaratri, with the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers, known as the Sangam, being the main attraction. Delegates from 10 nations, including spiritual leaders and cultural ambassadors, will join the holy dip, showcasing the event's universal appeal. The festival will also feature various cultural programs, including Nautanki, traditional dance, and music, with over 5,000 artists participating.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the event, the Prayagraj police have banned processions, drones, and protests, and issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure until February 28. The Uttar Pradesh government has also launched the "Mahakumbh Mela 2025" app to assist visitors with navigation and information about important locations, ghats, temples, and other major religious sites. Google has introduced a specialized navigation system integrated into Google Maps for the Maha Kumbh Mela area, and an AI-powered chatbot named "Kumbh Sah'AI'yak" is available in 11 languages to assist pilgrims.

The Indian Railways is implementing extensive arrangements for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, with over 13,000 trains operating over 50 days, including 10,000 regular trains and 3,000 special trains, to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims travelling to Prayagraj. With its rich cultural heritage and spiritual significance, the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 is an event of immense importance, attracting devotees from all over the world.
