Cricket Betting Racket Busted Ahead of Final Match
The betting rackets were using various online and offline methods to operate, with the accused earning significant profits from the illegal activities, and the police crackdown is a significant step towards curbing such activities during major cricket matches.

New Delhi police's Crime Branch has arrested two bookies, Parveen Kochhar and Sanjeev Kumar, for operating a cricket betting racket, with the accused earning commissions on transactions and running the operation for over two years, targeting high-stakes matches like the India-Australia Champions Trophy semi-final.
The raid, conducted on March 4, uncovered an elaborate betting network using online and offline methods, with the syndicate making transactions worth Rs 1.5 lakh daily and profits ranging between Rs 30,000-Rs 40,000 per match. The accused were found to be using various means to facilitate the betting operation, which had been active for over two years.
In a separate incident, Pimpri police arrested two suspects, Naresh Tolani and Romi Nehlani, for illegal online betting during the India-Australia cricket match. The arrests were made after a tip-off, and police raided two locations in Pimpri, seizing ₹1.62 lakh in cash and mobile phones linked to the Cricket Betting Guru app. The suspects were using the app to record bets placed during the match, with odds fluctuating based on the live game progress.
The arrested individuals have been booked under relevant gambling laws, and the crackdown on cricket betting rackets is expected to continue, especially with the final match approaching, as authorities aim to curb illegal betting activities and ensure a fair game.
