Matthew Selt Fined £21,000 and Given Suspended Ban
The fine and suspended ban imposed on Matthew Selt reflect the severity of his actions, and the WPBSA's decision aims to promote a culture of respect and sportsmanship in the sport of snooker. With the suspension hanging over him, Selt will need to be mindful of his behavior in future tournaments to avoid further disciplinary action.

Professional snooker player Matthew Selt has been fined £21,000 and handed a three-month suspended ban for his aggressive and abusive behavior at the Saudi Masters earlier this season. The 39-year-old player, ranked 33rd in the world, accepted the charges and apologized, citing stress and pressure as contributing factors.
The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) charged Selt with three counts of aggressive behavior, including being rude and abusive to a Matchroom Senior Executive and sending an abusive text to a WPBSA member. The incidents occurred in October, with Selt storming out of his Saudi Arabia Masters match with Pang Junxu after missing a pot while down 4-3.
Selt's suspension will only be activated if he is found guilty or pleads guilty to any further offenses. In addition to the fine and ban, Selt has also been ordered to pay £11,000 in legal costs. The WPBSA's decision reflects the organization's commitment to maintaining a professional and respectful environment in the sport.
The outcome of this case serves as a reminder that professional athletes are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and sporting manner, even in the face of adversity. Selt's apology and acknowledgement of his behavior are steps towards making amends, and the suspended ban will remain in place until the end of the 2025-26 snooker season.
