DAZN Secures UEFA Champions League Rights with TelevisaUnivision

The deal represents a significant expansion of DAZN's presence in the US market, particularly among Spanish-speaking audiences, and is expected to increase its appeal as a leading sports streaming service. With the UEFA Champions League and Europa League rights secured, DAZN is set to become a major player in the US sports streaming market.

DAZN, a sports streaming service, has entered into a sublicensing agreement with TelevisaUnivision to exclusively stream 38 Spanish-language UEFA Champions League matches in the US until 2026-27, while sharing rights to key matches with Univision.

The deal marks a significant expansion of DAZN's soccer rights in the US, having already broadcast the FIFA Club World Cup. TelevisaUnivision previously aired Champions League matches on its linear channels and streaming service Vix+, but will now carry fewer exclusive Champions League matches under the sublicense deal. The agreement also includes the Europa League, further solidifying DAZN's presence in the US market.

This partnership is the second tie-up between DAZN and TelevisaUnivision, following a sublicensing agreement for FIFA Club World Cup matches. The deal will see DAZN exclusively stream 38 Champions League games, while sharing rights to two quarterfinal matches, both semifinals, and the final with Univision. This move is expected to increase DAZN's appeal among Spanish-speaking audiences in the US.

However, DAZN's recent decision to cut its Ligue 1 broadcasting rights has left subscribers frustrated and uncertain about their commitments. The company secured the rights in August 2024 but has now ceased payments, citing imperfect conditions for developing its service. Despite this setback, DAZN maintains that Ligue 1 is just one part of its broader entertainment offering.

As the UEFA Champions League season approaches, DAZN is poised to become a major player in the US sports streaming market, particularly among Spanish-speaking audiences. With its expanded soccer rights and growing presence in the US, DAZN is well-positioned to capitalize on the popularity of European football in the region.
