LaLiga Broadcasting Rights Secured by FanCode, Replacing GXR

The El Clasico match between Barcelona and Real Madrid will be streamed on FanCode, with Barcelona leading the title charge with 79 points from 34 matches, 4 points ahead of Real Madrid. The match is expected to be a crucial one, with the title hanging in the balance, and Indian fans will be able to watch it live on FanCode, marking a new era in LaLiga broadcasting in India, with gxr no longer holding the rights.

FanCode has acquired the exclusive broadcasting rights for LaLiga and LaLiga 2 in India, starting immediately, and will stream the remainder of the ongoing 2024-25 season, including the highly anticipated El Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona, marking a significant shift from the previous broadcaster, Galaxy Racer (GXR), which had been streaming the competition for free.

The deal has sparked debate among Indian football fans, who will now have to pay a subscription fee to watch LaLiga matches on FanCode, after previously being able to watch them for free on GXR's website and app. LaLiga has a significant following in India, with top clubs like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Valencia CF, and Sevilla FC enjoying widespread popularity. The change in broadcasting rights comes after LaLiga terminated its exclusive media rights contract with Galaxy Racer (GXR) in the Indian subcontinent due to non-payment of fees.

GXR had previously partnered with LaLiga in 2022 for a 15-year sponsorship and partnership deal, but this did not include media rights. The company had secured broadcast rights to LaLiga and Ligue 1 last year, but failed to pay LaLiga since February, despite previous technical issues with streaming matches. The rights had previously been held by Viacom18 from 2021-22 to 2023-24. FanCode's acquisition of the broadcasting rights is expected to start ahead of the El Clásico match between Barcelona and Real Madrid, which will take place on May 11.

The shift in broadcasting rights is likely to have a significant impact on Indian football fans, who will now have to adapt to a new platform and potentially pay a subscription fee to watch their favorite teams and matches. However, with FanCode's acquisition of the rights, Indian fans can expect a more stable and reliable streaming experience, with the platform committed to bringing the best of LaLiga and LaLiga 2 to the Indian audience.
