The new design is expected to bring a more unified and intuitive experience across Apple's platforms, with features like Call Screening, live translation for phone calls, and an extension of the Visual Intelligence app. Developers can now adopt the new design using updated APIs, making it easy to refresh the design of their apps and provide a more delightful user experience.

Apple has introduced a new software design that brings a universal design across platforms, featuring a new material called Liquid Glass, which combines the optical qualities of glass with a fluidity that transforms depending on the content or context.

The new design extends from the smallest elements users interact with every day, such as buttons, switches, sliders, text, and media controls, to larger elements, including tab bars and sidebars for navigating apps. It also shines in system experiences, such as the Lock Screen, Home Screen, notifications, Control Center, and more. The design team considered every aspect of Apple's platforms to identify improvements that could be made across the board, including controls, toolbars, and navigation within apps.

Developers using SwiftUI, UIKit, and AppKit can adopt the new design using an updated set of APIs, which make it easy to refresh the design of their apps to make every user interaction even more intuitive and delightful. Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) kicked off on June 9, with the tech giant announcing several updates to its operating systems and features, including a design overhaul of all operating systems, featuring the new "liquid glass" design.

The conference also saw Apple announcing its plans to unify naming conventions for its operating systems, giving them year names instead of sequential numbers. Despite the company's efforts to focus on incremental developments that improve everyday life, Apple's shares slipped 1.5% after the conference.
