Irish actor Liam Cunningham, known for his role in HBO's Game of Thrones, has joined a group of activists, including climate activist Greta Thunberg, on a mission to sail to Gaza and deliver aid to the people affected by the Israeli siege. The group of 11 people set sail on a boat named Madleen on Sunday and is expected to take seven days to reach Gaza.

The mission aims to deliver essential items, including medical supplies, food, and water desalination kits, to the people of Gaza, who are suffering from a severe blockade and humanitarian crisis. Cunningham has been vocal in his support for Palestine since the Israeli bombings began in 2023. The group is also supported by the European Parliament member Rima Hassan and has received a call for safe passage from the UN Office of Human Rights Commission.

The ship, launched by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, departed from Catania, Sicily on June 1 and is expected to reach Gaza on June 7. The crew includes activists from various countries, all trained in nonviolence, and is sailing in a peaceful act of civil resistance against Israel's blockade of Gaza. The flotilla is a response to Israel's total blockade of Gaza, which has resulted in dozens of child deaths due to starvation, with over 90% of the enclave's population facing acute food shortages.

The journey is being monitored live, and the ship has been spotted by a surveillance drone. The flotilla aims to break Israel's illegal siege of Gaza and establish a people's sea corridor. The mission is seen as a symbolic and powerful effort to deliver aid to Gaza, and experts have expressed concern over Israel's disregard for international laws and its attacks on humanitarian aid workers.
