Kamal Azfar: Veteran PPP Leader Passes Away

Kamaluddin Azfar, a senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party and former Sindh governor, has passed away in Karachi at the age of 93 after a prolonged illness, leaving behind a legacy of public service and dedication to democratic values.
Azfar was a close associate of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and led the PPP's Karachi chapter, earning the nickname "Son of Karachi" for his grassroots work. He served as Sindh governor from 1995 and held various significant positions, including finance minister of Sindh and federal minister for local government and rural development.
Throughout his career, Azfar was instrumental in implementing policies that benefited the people of Sindh, particularly in the areas of local government and economic development. He was also a well-known writer and lawyer, and was educated at Government College, Lahore, and Balliol College, Oxford.
The news of Azfar's passing has been met with an outpouring of grief from PPP leaders, including Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah and Senator Sherry Rehman, who remembered his services in various positions, including Sindh governor, and his work with Benazir Bhutto.
