Bhool Chuk Maaf Movie Release Set for May 23
The Bhool Chuk Maaf movie release is a significant development in the ongoing debate about the theatrical-OTT window, with the court's decision likely to have far-reaching implications for the film industry. The movie's unique storyline and talented cast are expected to attract a large audience, but the controversy surrounding its release has already made headlines.

The Rajkummar Rao-Wamiqa Gabbi starrer Bhool Chuk Maaf will now release in theaters on May 23, following a consensus between PVR Inox and Maddock Films, after initially planning a direct OTT release due to security concerns.
The film's producers, Maddock Films, have reached an agreement with PVR Inox and Amazon MGM Studios to release the time-loop comedy in theaters instead. The decision comes after Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films was dragged to court by PVR Inox for cancelling the film's theatrical release and opting for a direct OTT release. The court eventually ordered a simultaneous release of the film in cinemas and on Amazon Prime Video after two weeks.
The film's director, Karan Sharma, revolves around a soon-to-be-married man stuck in a time loop, reliving the day before his wedding. Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi's Bhool Chuk Maaf was initially scheduled for a May 9 release in theaters, but due to India-Pakistan tensions, it was shifted to an OTT premiere on Prime Video on May 16. However, PVR Inox sued the production house, Maddock Films, for breach of contract, citing a loss of Rs 60 crore.
The decision has shocked the industry and trade, with exhibitors feeling betrayed and fearing a dangerous precedent that could shatter the 8-week theatrical window. Exhibitors argue that this ruling sets a wrong precedent and could lead to a loss of confidence in the exhibition sector. The case has also raised concerns about the impact on the theatrical-OTT window, with some arguing that it could lead to a shorter window for films to be released in cinemas.
The film will have a digital release on Prime Video on June 6, two weeks after its theatrical release, as per the agreement reached between the parties. The release of Bhool Chuk Maaf on May 23 is expected to bring some relief to the exhibitors, but the long-term impact of this decision on the industry remains to be seen.
