Earth Day 2025: Taking Action for the Earth
The 55th anniversary of Earth Day serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for environmental action and awareness, and the importance of educating younger generations about the importance of conservation and sustainability, as the world continues to grapple with the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation.

As the world approaches the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, concerns are growing that countries are on track to miss the Paris climate agreement targets, despite the efforts of online networks and community groups creating their own sustainable solutions to reduce waste and promote environmental conservation.
Boone Hogg and Logan Jugler's community, @officialstickreviews, is one such example, showcasing sticks and raising money for nature-helping nonprofits like One Tree Planted, World Wildlife Fund, and National Forest Foundation. Meanwhile, Liesl Clark and Rebecca Rockefeller's platform has grown into a global movement with millions of members, promoting the sharing and borrowing of items to reduce plastic waste.
DePhane Marcelle Weaver's organization is also making a significant impact, promoting sustainable gardening and providing a network of neighborhood plant stands where people can share and exchange plants, seeds, and knowledge. In New Mexico, volunteers are working to restore native plants and ecosystems, such as at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park, where invasive plants are being removed and native species reintroduced.
Despite the progress made, longtime environmental activist Sally Rodgers expressed disappointment over the lack of progress on environmental issues, citing the need for education and awareness about climate change and conservation. However, younger generations offer hope, with many becoming increasingly aware of environmental issues and motivated to take action.
As the world reflects on the past five decades of environmental efforts, it is clear that significant challenges remain, particularly with regards to climate change and pollution reductions. Nevertheless, the enthusiasm and energy of younger generations, combined with the efforts of community groups and online networks, offer a glimmer of hope for the future of the earth.
