Thousands Gather on Earth Day to Protest Climate Change
The protest and fundraiser are part of a broader movement to raise awareness about climate change and promote environmental protection, with a focus on building a stronger, more resilient community to address the urgent environmental issues facing the state and the nation.

Protesters gathered at the Minnesota State Capitol on April 19, 2025, to raise awareness about climate change and criticize the Trump administration's policies, with an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 people in attendance. The event, organized by The People's Earth Day Coalition, was a follow-up to the "Hands Off" protest earlier in April and aimed to build on the momentum of nationwide protests on April 5.
The protest was part of a larger "50501" movement, with over 700 events planned across the US to protest Trump administration policies, including those on immigration, transgender rights, and environmental issues. The event highlighted the impacts of climate change and the importance of preserving natural resources, with many protesters citing the need for urgent action to address the issue.
In a related effort, ten Minnesota environmental nonprofits have joined forces for an Earth Day fundraiser, called "One Day, One Earth, One Minnesota," to raise $250,000 to protect the state's land, water, and wildlife. The participating organizations, including Great River Greening, Frogtown Green, and Urban Roots, will use the funds raised to support ecological restoration, habitat protection, community engagement, and climate resilience efforts.
The collaboration and protest demonstrate the growing concern about climate change and the importance of community-led initiatives to address environmental challenges. As the participating organizations believe, strength is in numbers, and community is the heart of their work, and they are stronger together in addressing environmental challenges.
