Punjab University, in collaboration with local police, has conducted a major operation to evict hundreds of illegal residents from its hostels in Lahore, freeing up space for 600 legitimate students. The joint operation removed unauthorized occupants, allowing the administration to allot hostel rooms to 300 morning students and plans to accommodate 300 more students from remote areas.

The university claims that the illegal occupants were using high-power appliances, causing financial losses and depriving the university of hostel dues. The administration has taken action against all unlawful residents, and police and university officials are taking legal action against troublemakers. The operation, which was conducted during Eidul Fitr holidays, aimed to remove non-student elements and return rooms to deserving students, particularly those in morning programmes.

The university displayed complete allotment lists and issued notices to illegally occupied rooms, warning residents to vacate or face legal action. The administration has emphasized strict consequences for violations, including reporting to University Security and Police, FIR registration, and referral to Disciplinary Committees. Starting April 8, legal allottees must show their university ID and confirm their allotment from the hostel list.

The operation is part of the university's ongoing commitment to remove non-student and violent elements from campus premises. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali stated that the university is committed to ensuring zero illegal occupancy in hostels. The PU Academic Staff Association (PU-ASA) has extended its appreciation to the university administration for the operation.
