Deb Mukherjee, the veteran actor and father of filmmaker Ayan Mukerji, passed away on March 14th at the age of 83 due to age-related health issues, leaving the film industry in mourning, with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt returning to Mumbai from Alibaug to pay their respects.

Deb Mukherjee was a renowned figure in the film industry, having appeared in films such as Ek Baar Muskura Do and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, and was related to actors Kajol and Rani Mukerji. He was instrumental in organizing the North Bombay Sarvajanik Durga Puja Pandal, a prominent Durga Puja celebration in Mumbai that attracted several Bollywood celebrities.

The veteran actor had struggled with health problems for months and his last rites will be performed at Mumbai's Pawan Hans Crematorium. Ayan Mukerji, who is currently working on War 2, hasn't made a statement but will likely be affected by the loss, which may impact the film's release around Independence Day.
