Mohammad Amir Eyes IPL Debut with Royal Challengers Bangalore

Amir's potential move to RCB could be a significant boost to the team's chances of winning the IPL, and his experience playing against India could give him an edge in the tournament. With the 2026 season still afar, cricket fans will be eagerly waiting to see if Amir will don the RCB jersey and help the team achieve their maiden IPL title.

Updated :

Mohammad Amir, a former Pakistan cricketer, is set to become eligible to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2026, thanks to his wife's UK citizenship, and has expressed his desire to join the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team, citing his admiration for the team and his ability to help them win their maiden IPL title.

Amir, who has played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20Is, has had memorable performances against India, including a notable incident where former Indian captain Virat Kohli gifted him his bat. His experience and skills could be a valuable addition to the RCB team, which has not won the IPL despite being part of every edition since its inception in 2008. Ahmed Shehzad, a Pakistan Test batter and former teammate of Amir, believes that Amir's presence could help RCB fix their bowling woes and win the title.

However, not everyone is convinced that RCB can win the IPL, even with Amir on their team. Rashid Latif claims that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will win the IPL as long as MS Dhoni is in the team, and that RCB cannot even think about winning the IPL as long as Dhoni is with CSK. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, RCB's star player, has faced criticism for his strike rate, particularly against spin, but has improved his game to help RCB make a comeback in the tournament.

As the IPL continues to be one of the most competitive and popular cricket leagues in the world, the addition of Mohammad Amir to the RCB team could be a game-changer for the franchise. With his experience and skills, Amir could help RCB finally win their maiden IPL title, and his admiration for Virat Kohli and the team could make for an exciting and compelling storyline in the 2026 season.
