International Women's Day 2025, marked on March 8, emphasizes the need for action to break down systemic barriers and achieve gender equality, with a focus on rights, equality, and empowerment for all women and girls.
The theme "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment" highlights the importance of addressing ongoing challenges and making concrete commitments to gender equality. The day marks 30 years since the Beijing Declaration, which emphasized key rights such as gender equality, elimination of violence, economic empowerment, political participation, and health and education.
The UN is calling on governments and individuals to take bold action to address the digital gender divide, poverty, violence against women, lack of decision-making power, peace and security, and climate justice. Governments can invest $360 billion annually to close the gender gap by 2030, while individuals can make a difference by supporting women's rights organizations and advocating for women in leadership.
UN Women is launching a global campaign #ForAllWomenAndGirls to demand action from leaders and promote gender equality. The UN Commission on the Status of Women will review progress on implementing the Beijing Platform for Action in March 2025. A series of events and activities are planned to mark International Women's Day 2025, including a report launch on March 6 and an official commemoration event at the UN General Assembly Hall on March 7.
As the world comes together to celebrate International Women's Day 2025, it is essential to recognize the progress made and the challenges that remain in achieving gender equality. By working together, we can create a more just and equitable world for all women and girls.
