Two powerful explosions rocked the Bannu district near the cantonment in Pakistan, followed by intense gunfire, as militants targeted a security barrier in a coordinated attack claimed by Jaish ul Fursan and TTP.

The blasts, which occurred near the Bannu Cantonment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, caused significant destruction and flames, with official casualty figures yet to be confirmed. The attack was carried out by two suicide car bombs, which were used as a diversion, and was followed by an attempt by five to six more attackers to enter the facility.

The militant group Jaish Fursan Muhammad, affiliated with Gul Bahadur, claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes days after a blast killed a senior pro-Taliban cleric and four worshippers in the same province. The area is currently under lockdown, with reinforcements dispatched to neutralize the attackers.

The attack is the latest in a series of militant assaults in Pakistan, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province where Bannu is located. The blasts occurred after sunset, during the Muslim fasting period of Ramadan, and have raised concerns about the security situation in the region.

The Pakistani army has stated that the additional attackers were eliminated after the breach, but casualty figures have not been released. The attack on the Bannu Cantonment is a significant incident in the ongoing security challenges faced by Pakistan, and the government is likely to face questions about its strategy to tackle militancy in the region.
