Earthquake Strikes Malibu, Raising Fears of Bigger Quake
With the recent surge in earthquake activity, residents are advised to be prepared and take proactive steps to mitigate the risks associated with earthquakes, and to stay informed about the latest developments and updates from authorities.

Two small earthquakes hit near Malibu on Friday night and Saturday morning, with the first quake registering a preliminary 3.5 magnitude and the second quake occurring just hours later, sparking concerns of a potential larger earthquake in the region.
The earthquakes, which were felt in parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, as well as Long Beach, did not cause any damage or injuries. However, seismologist Lucy Jones noted that back-to-back quakes can be a sign of more earthquakes to come, and that the recent series of earthquakes in California has raised fears of "the big one" being near.
The quakes occurred about 10 miles below the earth's surface, likely along the Santa Monica Bay fault, and there is little to no risk of earthquake-induced landslides, according to Jones. California has experienced dozens of minor earthquakes since February 6th, including a 6.1 magnitude quake that struck 6 miles NNW of Avenal on February 13th.
Residents are advised to take earthquakes seriously, regardless of their magnitude, and to follow the USGS's "drop, cover, and hold on" protocol. Experts believe that the earthquakes could be precursors to a larger event, and residents are urged to remain alert and have an earthquake plan in place, including a family emergency communications plan, a supply kit, and preparation for potential hazards such as tsunamis, fires, and landslides.
As the situation continues to unfold, residents are reminded to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of their loved ones. The Department of Homeland Security and seismologists will continue to monitor the situation closely, providing updates and guidance as needed.
