Sri Lanka Names Squad for ICC ODI Series, ICC ODI Ranking Batsman

With a balanced lineup and a spin-heavy strategy, Sri Lanka aims to put up a strong performance against Australia, despite the lack of competitive stakes, and improve their ICC ODI ranking, which will be a key factor in their upcoming matches.

Sri Lanka has announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match ODI series against Australia, with Charith Asalanka as captain, aiming to bounce back from their recent test series loss to Australia.

The squad features a spin-heavy lineup, with talented spinners Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, and Jeffrey Vandersay being key components, as the conditions at home are expected to suit spinners more. Dunith Wellalage has been favored over Chamindu Wickramasinghe due to his utility with the bat and efficient left-arm spin, fitting the "horses-for-courses" approach.

The rest of the squad remains the same as in the New Zealand tour, with Kusal Mendis, Avishka Fernando, and Pathum Nissanka forming a solid batting lineup. The bowling lineup is led by Maheesh Theekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Jeffrey Vandersay, while fast bowlers like Asitha Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, Eshan Malinga, and Mohamed Shiraz are also part of the squad.

The series is scheduled to start on Wednesday, with the second match on Friday at the Premadasa stadium in Colombo, and will be a crucial test for both teams, especially for Australia, who will proceed to Pakistan immediately following the series to compete in the Champions Trophy.
