Travis Head Replaces Konstas in Galle Test

Updated :

In a notable change to the Australian cricket team, Travis Head is set to replace Sam Konstas as Usman Khawaja's opening partner in the first test against Sri Lanka at Galle, according to stand-in captain Steve Smith.

This decision comes after Konstas impressed as an opener in his debut series against India, and now he may be accommodated in the middle order following Head's promotion. The team has also seen other significant changes, with Josh Inglis set to make his Test debut and Mitchell Starc joining as the only seamer in the attack.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, has named an unchanged squad for the test match. The Australian team has been dealing with injuries, including Sean Abbott and Alex Carey, which has led to Michael Inglis being named in the squad and Peter Head being called up as a replacement wicketkeeper.

Josh Hazlewood will not participate due to an elbow problem, although it's reported to be less serious than initially feared. Additionally, Chris Green will not participate in the tour as a precautionary measure after suffering a stress fracture, ensuring the team takes all necessary precautions with player injuries.

The changes reflect the team's strategy and adaptability as they prepare for the test against Sri Lanka and look ahead to their tour of South Africa, aiming to make the most of the available talent and manage player health effectively.
