Phil Salt Struggles: Learning from Jos Buttler

Updated :

England cricketers Phil Salt and Harry Brook, recent recruits of RCB and Delhi Capitals respectively, are facing challenges in the ongoing T20I series against India, prompting former Indian player Aakash Chopra to suggest they adopt Jos Buttler's batting approach to improve their performance.

Phil Salt, purchased by RCB for INR 11.5 crores, has scored a meager 9 runs in three games, averaging 3.0, while Harry Brook, bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 crores, has managed 38 runs in three games at an average of 12.66. Their struggles have raised concerns about their ability to perform in Indian conditions.

Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricketer, advised Salt and Brook to learn from England captain Jos Buttler's successful batting approach, emphasizing his ability to read spinners and control the game. Buttler has averaged 45.67 in three innings, with a top score of 68, showcasing his skill in navigating Indian conditions.

Chopra noted that Buttler's approach is characterized by his ability to score runs without being overaggressive, using his experience to his advantage. He suggested that Salt and Brook should observe how Buttler bats, particularly in terms of reading spinners and controlling the game, to improve their own performance in the series.

As the 4th T20I against India approaches, Salt and Brook will look to turn their fortunes around and make a significant impact in the series. By adopting Jos Buttler's batting approach, they may be able to overcome their struggles and justify their hefty price tags in the IPL auction.
