Sanju Samson Faces Criticism Over Shot Selection

Updated :

Former Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Deep Dasgupta have questioned Sanju Samson's shot selection in the 2nd T20I against England, where he was dismissed attempting to hit sixes on a pitch that offered assistance to the bowlers. Samson's struggles against express pace have been a concern throughout the ongoing series.

Gavaskar stated that Samson's decision to go for sixes after being hit on the gloves was "not the smartest of options," while Dasgupta suggested that he should have utilized the pace of the bowlers instead. Samson's dismissal by Jofra Archer in the first two T20Is has raised concerns about his ability to handle fast bowling, with scores of 26 and 5 runs respectively.

Former India batter Aakash Chopra pointed out that Samson's performance against pace balls over 140 kph has been "extremely ordinary." Chopra noted that Samson's strike rate is low, and he often gets caught in the deep while trying to play big shots. Despite scoring three centuries in the five matches leading up to this series, Samson's recent form has been a concern, particularly against pace and bouncers.

As the series against England continues, Samson will need to reassess his approach and find ways to effectively handle the pace and bounce of the English bowlers. With the Indian team looking to build momentum, Samson's performance will be crucial in determining the outcome of the series.
