Gandapur Meets Imran Khan Amidst K-P Politics

Updated :

A significant meeting took place on January 27, 2025, between Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, drawing considerable attention to the province's political landscape. The one-hour discussion centered on law and order, party affairs, and political matters, as reported by Express News.

During the meeting, Khan and Gandapur reviewed development projects, the security situation in K-P, and preparations for an upcoming rally in Peshawar, scheduled for February 8. Imran Khan provided directives to Gandapur on event preparations and related strategies, indicating the importance of the rally in the political context of the province. Following the meeting, Gandapur departed the jail without addressing the media, sparking speculation about the implications of the meeting on K-P's politics and the broader national scene.

In a recent development, PTI KP President Junaid Akbar was appointed by Imran Khan to replace Gandapur as the party's president. This decision was announced by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, citing Gandapur's extensive responsibilities as chief minister. Akbar, who was recently elected chairman of the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) unopposed, expressed gratitude for his appointment and attributed his success to hard work.

However, tensions arose as Imran Khan censured Gandapur over alleged corruption and poor performance in the province. This criticism followed the appointment of Junaid Akbar, who had supported an anti-Gandapur faction. Imran Khan was reportedly displeased with Gandapur's response to the arrest of his wife, Bushra Bibi, and tasked a group to investigate corruption in the province. Although the replacement of Gandapur was not discussed, Imran Khan directed Atif Khan to suggest a name for the provincial president and later approved Akbar as the leader.

The meeting between Gandapur and Imran Khan, as well as the recent appointments and criticisms, have significant implications for the political landscape of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the broader national context. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact the province and the country as a whole.
