Rohit Joins Ranji Trophy Squad

Updated :

After a disappointing tour of Australia, several key Indian players, including Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli, are set to return to domestic cricket in a bid to regain their form ahead of the team's next Test assignment in England.

The players' return to domestic cricket comes after a poor showing in the recent Test series against Australia, which resulted in India losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The loss also meant that the team missed out on a chance to qualify for the World Test Championship final. Rohit Sharma, in particular, had a poor series and will be looking to bounce back with a strong performance in the Ranji Trophy. He has rejoined the Mumbai squad and has been training with the team at the Wankhede stadium.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had a relatively good series in Australia, has also been instructed to report to the Mumbai team to train at the Bandra Kurla Complex. However, his participation in the upcoming Ranji Trophy fixture against Jammu and Kashmir on January 23 is uncertain and will be decided on January 20. Other players, including Shubman Gill and possibly Virat Kohli, may also participate in domestic matches, although the availability of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul is unclear.

The domestic tournament provides a crucial opportunity for the players to regain their form and momentum before the team's next Test assignment in England, which is scheduled to start on June 20. With the BCCI directive requiring centrally contracted players not in the T20I squad to participate in domestic matches, it is likely that several key players will feature in the Ranji Trophy, providing a boost to the tournament and a chance for the players to rediscover their form.
