Gwadar Port Expansion to Boost Trade and Economy

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Gwadar into a modern maritime and logistics centre, with a focus on promoting inclusivity, prosperity, and national pride through enhanced port performance.
The minister identified the economic potential of Balochistan's coastal and agricultural belt, particularly in fishing and date production, and urged the public and private sectors to invest in processing units and logistics systems to support sustainable export operations. A Rs497 million off-dock terminal near the New Gwadar International Airport is being built to reduce demurrage costs, increase trade confidence, and boost revenues through Gwadar Port.
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs announced the plan to expand Gwadar Port's operational capacity by introducing additional shipping lines and launching a ferry service connecting Gwadar to the Gulf region. Five private companies have proposed routes for the ferry service, which is expected to provide an affordable, direct maritime link for passengers and cargo, benefiting expatriate communities and cross-border traders.
The development of Gwadar Port is expected to unlock Balochistan's economic potential, providing logistical benefits to landlocked Central Asian countries and boosting trade confidence in the region. With the support of the provincial government, the project is poised to make a significant impact on the local economy and contribute to the country's overall economic growth.
