Parc de Princes Sees PSG Dominate Monaco

Updated :

Paris Saint-Germain cemented their position at the summit of Ligue 1 on December 18, 2024, as they defeated AS Monaco 4-2 at the Parc des Princes. The absence of Marc-Andre ter Stegen due to injury did little to hinder the Parisians' dominance, with the goalkeeper's injury occurring in a previous match against Monaco resulting in a scheduling conflict.

In their previous encounter with Monaco, PSG's goalkeeper ter Stegen found himself at the center of controversy when he was involved in a foul on Frederic Singo in the 17th minute. The incident, which resulted in ter Stegen being lucky to avoid a red card, left the Monaco player injured and bloodied, highlighting a sore spot that exceeded more than physical harm. PSG's Neymar, whose second-half injury allowed midfielder Désiré Doué to secure a winning goal for the Parisians at the end of the game.

Monday's match saw PSG's Olivier Dembélé claim a double, adding to Gonçalo Ramos' contribution, for a 4-2 win over Monaco. For the losing team, Benjamin Embolo’s 8th-minute strike and penalty by Evens Joseph Ben Seghir in the 53rd minute marked Monaco's efforts. Despite being 8 saves for goalkeeper Nicolas Köhn, Monaco couldn’t take the match further.

PSG's victory continued to solidify their top spot in the Ligue 1 standings, maintaining 40 points. Monaco, on the other hand, levels on points with FC Nantes but boasting a match in hand, stands third on 30 points.

The win would give PSG a strong chance of securing their spot if the latter protocols come off well for the defending champions. The team does have two other matches to go, figuring they are confident . It still remains an exciting one at the end of the season.
