With a significant investment on the cards, City and United will be closely watching developments as they aim to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season, and Costa's decision could have a major impact on the Premier League goalkeeping landscape.

Manchester City is reportedly looking to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa for a fee of €75m to address their goalkeeping issue, with the 25-year-old open to a move to consolidate his place in the Portugal squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Costa's current deal with Porto has two years remaining, and his performances have drawn attention from City manager Pep Guardiola. The deal would be a significant investment for City, who are already strengthening other areas of their squad. Costa's potential exit could be triggered by Porto's pursuit of a new goalkeeper, with Cruz Azul's Kevin Mier on their shortlist.

Meanwhile, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has requested the signing of Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa as a replacement for underperforming André Onana. Onana struggled in the 2024-25 season, making four errors leading to goals, and his deputy Altay Bayındır failed to impress. Costa, who will turn 26 in September, has a €75 million release clause but Porto may allow him to leave for around €60 million.

The Portugal international is reportedly keen to join a Premier League club and improve his financial situation, with Liverpool also pursuing him as a potential long-term replacement for Ederson. As the transfer window heats up, it remains to be seen which English giant will ultimately secure Costa's signature.
