Emma Raducanu held back tears after sealing her place in the second round of the Eastbourne Open, beating American Ann Li 6-7 (5/7) 6-3 6-1, in a match where she praised the crowd for helping her through "sticky moments" after receiving "some really bad news" before the match.

The former US Open champion fought back from losing the opening set, showcasing her grit and determination to come back from a set down and win in two hours and 18 minutes. Raducanu credited her coach Mark Petchey and friend Fran Jones for their support during this challenging time. She will face Australian teenager Maya Joint in the next round.

In other matches, Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova survived match points to progress, beating Britain's Harriet Dart 6-3 6-7 (4/7) 7-5. Krejcikova will face another Brit, Jodie Burrage, in the next round.
