Pakistan International Airlines Cuts International Tickets Prices Following IMF Waiver

Updated :

Pakistan International Airlines has announced significant reductions in international flight ticket prices, ranging from Rs105,000 to Rs350,000, after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved a waiver on Federal Excise Duty (FED). The move is expected to boost travel to foreign destinations and increase revenue for the airline.

The revision in ticket prices comes as a result of the Pakistani government requesting a waiver on FED for international flights, as confirmed by the IMF. As a result, passengers flying to various international destinations will be able to save a substantial amount through this reduction. The reduction in prices will vary depending on the destination, with the highest savings of up to Rs350,000 recorded for flights to the United States. Those heading to Africa and the Middle East can expect to save up to Rs105,000, while trips to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Far East may offer savings of up to Rs210,000. In addition to the reduction in ticket prices, the airline has announced the resumption of direct flights to Paris in January 2025. This move is expected to enhance business, tourism, and people-to-people interaction between Pakistan and France. The resumption of direct flights is also seen as a positive step for the airline, as it can contribute to reinforcing PIA's international operations while facilitating travel and connectivity. Minister for Aviation Khawaja Muhammad Asif recently disclosed plans to privatize the state-run airline, PIA, and stated that the government will bear the liability of the organization's Rs800 billion total debt.
