Johnson Charles Nominated, Sir Clive Lloyd Honored

The 8th annual CWI/WIPA Awards Gala has announced its nominees, including Johnson Charles for Regional T20 Player of the Year, as the West Indies cricket community prepares to commemorate the 50th anniversary of their 1975 ICC Cricket World Cup victory.

The nominees for the awards include Rovman Powell and Brandon King for T20 player of the year, Stafanie Taylor and Chinelle Henry for women's One Day International player of the year, and Marquino Mindley for Super50 Cup player of the year, among others. The gala will honor outstanding performances in West Indies cricket over the past year and celebrate the legacy of the 1975 World Cup win.

Legendary West Indies captain Sir Clive Lloyd, who led the team to back-to-back World Cup titles in 1975 and 1979, will attend the awards gala and be honored alongside other living champions. Lloyd reflected on the significance of the 1975 World Cup win, recalling his innings of 102 from 85 balls, which helped the West Indies recover from a struggling start and eventually win the match against Australia.

The CWI/WIPA Awards Gala will take place on June 22, 2025, at the Wyndham Grand Barbados Sam Lord's Castle, and will be broadcast live, with limited fan tickets available for purchase. The event promises to be a celebration of West Indies cricket's rich history and its current stars, with Johnson Charles and other nominees recognized for their outstanding performances.
