Australia has announced a 16-man squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series in the West Indies, with Mitchell Marsh returning as captain after recovering from a lower back injury, while notable players like Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Mitchell Starc have been rested for the series.

The squad includes Josh Hazlewood, who was rested for the Pakistan series, and Matthew Kuhnemann, who makes his T20I debut. Explosive batsman Mitchell Owen has earned a first call-up after a strong performance in the Big Bash League, where he was the highest run scorer. Owen made 108 off 42 balls in the final, showcasing his potential to make an impact in the international arena.

The series against the West Indies is part of Australia's build-up to the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Chairman of selectors George Bailey said the team will continue to refine and build a squad for the World Cup, emphasizing the importance of squad depth and experimentation. The squad also includes Cameron Green and Cooper Connolly, who return following injury, and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who has retained his place in the T20I squad despite announcing his retirement from ODI cricket.

The first T20I against the West Indies is on July 20 at Kingston, Jamaica, and Australia will be looking to continue their strong form, having won 12 of their past 14 matches. With a mix of experienced players and new talent, the team will be aiming to make a statement in the series and build momentum ahead of the T20 World Cup.
