Aguilar was a renowned OPM icon, known for his hit songs such as "Anak", "Magdalena", "Kumusta Ka", and "Ipaglalaban Ko", with "Anak" being his most notable hit, selling 33 million copies worldwide. He was also a former national executive vice president of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) and was appointed Presidential Adviser on Culture and the Arts by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Throughout his career, Aguilar received numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to music, including the Lifetime Achievement in Music Award and Global Music Icon Award, which he received last year.
