South Africa Crush Pakistan in T20 Series Opener

Updated :

South Africa's Proteas team achieved a comprehensive 7-wicket victory over Pakistan in the second T20 International in Centurion, capturing an invincible 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Reeza Hendricks starred for South Africa, guiding his team to a successful chase with a career-best 117 off 57 deliveries.

Pakistan, who batted first, posted an impressive 206/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Saim Ayub topped the scoring chart with 98 off 57 balls, displaying a strong display of batting prowess. However, despite the solid platform, Pakistan's total was not enough to thwart South Africa's determined chase. Galiem Dayyaan made an impressive debut for South Africa, taking 2/21 in 4 overs to play a crucial role in restricting the Pakistani innings.

In response, South Africa's top-order batsmen showed outstanding form, with Reeza Hendricks producing a remarkable century. His 117 off 57 deliveries included 10 sixes and 7 fours, setting the tone for the South African triumph. Rassie Van Der Dussen chipped in with a valuable 66, while Hendricks' incredible innings formed the foundation for the target of 207. South Africa successfully chased the target in 19.3 overs, ending Pakistan's challenge and taking a solid grip on the series.

The series now sees South Africa on the brink of a historic T20I series win. The Proteas last achieved a bilateral T20I series victory in August 2022, and this victory marks another significant milestone for the team. With the final match to be played in Johannesburg, Pakistan will need to regroup and mount a strong performance to salvage some pride in the series.
