Pat Cummins Fined, RCB Slapped with Hefty Fines
The penalties imposed on RCB and SRH highlight the importance of adhering to the IPL's Code of Conduct, with teams facing significant fines for repeat offenses. As the tournament progresses, teams will need to balance their strategy with the need to maintain a consistent over rate, making for an exciting and unpredictable season.

Rajat Patidar, captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has been fined Rs 24 lakhs for maintaining a slow over rate during their league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, while Pat Cummins, the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, was fined INR 12 lakh for SRH's first over-rate offence of the season.
The fines imposed on the captains are in accordance with the revised IPL rules for 2025, which introduce a lighter penalty for first-time violations, with escalating fines for repeat infractions. This is RCB's second offense of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, resulting in a heavier fine for Patidar.
In addition to the fines imposed on the captains, each member of the playing XI, including the designated Impact Player, was fined INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fee. The penalties were imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate violations.
The fines serve as a reminder to teams to maintain a consistent over rate during matches, with the IPL taking a strict stance on this issue to ensure the smooth conduct of the tournament. The revised rules aim to promote a fair and exciting game, and teams will need to be mindful of their over rates to avoid penalties.
