A severe heatwave is gripping most parts of Pakistan, with temperatures expected to remain significantly above normal through the weekend, driven by a strong high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere. Daytime temperatures are expected to soar 5-7°C above seasonal averages in northern and central regions, while southern areas will see temperatures 4-6°C above normal.

The highest temperatures recorded were 48°C in Turbat and Dadu, and 47°C in Dera Ghazi Khan. Major cities like Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Multan, and Peshawar are forecast to experience daily highs between 40-48°C through the weekend. Authorities advise the public to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, and take heatwave precautions, especially for vulnerable populations.

Punjab is experiencing a severe heatwave, with temperatures reaching 45.4°C in Rahim Yar Khan and 44.5°C in Bahawalnagar. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned that temperatures could rise further, exacerbating conditions across the province. The PDMA has directed hospitals to prepare for emergency measures, set up heatwave counters, and stock heat-related medicines.

Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the heatwave, including avoiding outdoor labor, wearing light clothing, and staying hydrated, with special care advised for children, the elderly, and the sick. The PDMA has also launched public awareness campaigns and directed citizens to limit outdoor activities between 10am and 4pm.
