Punjab's 'Dhi Rani' Initiative: A Groundbreaking Efforts to Break the Cycle of Dowry and Poverty
In a groundbreaking move, Maryam Nawaz, Chief Minister of Punjab, recently inaugurated the Punjab Dhi Rani mass wedding program, aimed at providing a much-needed financial boost to underprivileged newlywed couples. The initiative addresses the social and economic challenges faced by low-income families, particularly women, by offering much-needed financial assistance and essentials such as furniture, food, and clothing.
The program allows eligible couples to apply online through the website cmp.punjab.gov.pk or by dialing the dedicated helpline 1312. Special verification teams will visit the couples at their homes to ensure transparency and authenticity of the applications. The scheme will provide approximately Rs. 100,000 to each eligible couple, helping to alleviate the financial strain of marriage on low-income families and promote a dowry-free culture.
Welcoming this ambitious initiative, over 550,000 visitors accessed the program's portal, with an impressive 450,000 applications already submitted. Notably, this program is in addition to the previous annoucement by the CM to release the second installment of the "Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar" program.
As Punjab continues to break new ground with progressive social and economic welfare initiatives, the Dhi Rani Program is poised to play a significant role in uplifting the lives of thousands of deserving families. By bridging the financial gap in marriages and promoting a culture of mutual support, this far-reaching initiative stands to not only ease the economic burden on low-income families but also strengthen social cohesion and dignity in the community.
