Cherries Mount Impressive Comeback to Reach FA Youth Cup Fourth Round

Updated :

AFC Bournemouth's under-18 team has produced a thrilling comeback performance to reach the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup, following a 3-2 win over Ipswich Town at Eastleigh's Silverlake Stadium.

The Cherries started strong, taking the lead through Charlie Stevens' early goal. However, Ipswich responded quickly through Luke Towler, leveling the score before the half-time break. Bournemouth regained the lead through Jonny Day's strike, but Ipswich continued to mount pressure, capitalizing on scoring opportunities. In the second half, Josh Salmon extended the Cherries' lead, but Ipswich refused to give up, courtesy of cutting the deficit to one goal.

In a testament to Bournemouth's defensive solidity, they managed to secure the win, despite Ipswich's attempts to mount a final comeback. This victory marks a significant turnaround in the teams' recent meetings, as Ipswich had lost to Bournemouth just a few weeks prior, with the same 3-2 scoreline at an under-18 match on December 11, 2024.

The Cherries will now progress to the next round of the FA Youth Cup, where they will face off against opponents to be determined. While Ipswich has exited the competition, the team demonstrated determination and spirit, fighting until the very end to stay in the contest. The result highlights Bournemouth's ability to overcome adversity and clinch crucial victories, particularly in tight matches.
