Winter Chill Grips Pakistan, Temporary Relief Likely
A severe cold wave is tightening its grip on Pakistan, bringing temperatures down to record lows in several parts of the country. The United Nations Higher Atmosphere Blog reported Lahore as having a staggering 277 dust level, ranking it first globally.
Pakistani regions neighboring India recorded steep temperature drops, with Islamabad plummeting to -1°C as Leh, Skardu, and Gopas reported record-breaking lows of -13°C, -7°C, and -6°C. The harsh conditions have come as the Met Office predicted rain and snowfall in hilly areas including upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and nearby mountainous regions. Not to be left behind, Islamabad is expected to remain fairly chilly, despite partly cloudy skies promising moderate temperatures.
