Pakistan Faces Below-Average Rainfall, Forecasts Severe Cold Weather

Updated :

Pakistan is bracing for a severe cold snap and below-average rainfall this winter season, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz Khan warned that Balochistan will remain dry and cold throughout December, with no rainfall expected, while northern areas are already experiencing heavy snowfall.

The PMD has predicted that precipitation levels will remain below normal for the remainder of the winter season, affecting water supplies and agriculture in the region. Quetta has seen temperatures as low as minus 4 degrees Celsius, with cold winds continuing to impact much of the country. The PMD has issued a security alert for Murree and Galiyat to ensure visitor safety as tourists are being rescued in Shogran due to intense snowfall.

In Karachi, a cold wave has gripped the city, with the minimum temperature dropping to 11 degrees Celsius. The Met department forecasted dry weather with cool nights, with minimum temperatures ranging between 11-12°C and maximum temperatures between 26-28°C. The Met Office has issued a similar warning for other parts of the country, predicting cold and dry weather in most areas, with frost expected to blanket Islamabad, upper Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the morning.

As the cold weather settles in, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe. The PMD has urged people to check weather forecasts regularly and plan accordingly, especially when traveling to mountainous regions. According to the Met Office, the cold wave is expected to persist for the next few days, with temperatures showing no sign of improvement.
