Cold Snap Grips Pakistan: Below-Average Rainfall Forecast for Winter, Extreme Temperatures Expected
Pakistan is bracing for a prolonged cold snap, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning of severe cold conditions across the country. The forecast suggests that the country will experience below-average rainfall during the winter season, with dry and cold conditions expected to prevail in Balochistan throughout December, and extreme temperatures predicted nationwide.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reported that the country's temperature dropped to its lowest point within the past year, further adding to the dire situation. Pakistan's meteorological agency has predicted below-average rainfall nationwide for the winter season. The prolonged dry spell is undeniably taking a toll on water supplies and agriculture in the region. Some cities have seen an unusual drop in temperatures. The northern regions have been subjected to heavy snowfall, completely transforming the landscape into a winter wonderland. The cold temperatures, however, are coming at a high cost - the dry spell has led to numerous calls for salvage efforts to save drought-affected crops.
