Lahore's Anti-Terrorism Court has sentenced three individuals, including Amna Urooj, to seven years in prison each for their roles in the kidnapping-for-ransom case involving renowned screenwriter Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, who was abducted and robbed in Lahore after being lured to a private residence under false pretences.

The court found the three convicts guilty of secretly recording Qamar and orchestrating his abduction for ransom, with the prosecution alleging that the abduction was part of a financially motivated scheme. The defense, however, presented a conflicting version of events, claiming that Qamar had pressured Urooj for a physical relationship and threatening to leak photographs if she refused.

The case began in July 2023 when Qamar was allegedly abducted in Lahore after being invited to Urooj's apartment under the pretext of discussing a professional project. He was released several days later after a ransom was paid. The kidnappers withdrew money from Qamar's bank account and seized his belongings before releasing him.

The verdict was announced by Judge Arshad Javed, who also acquitted other suspects in the case, including the alleged mastermind Hasan Shah. The acquittal of eight other individuals named in the case was due to a lack of evidence. The sentencing of Amna Urooj, Mamnoon Haider, and Zeeshan to seven years in jail each marks a significant development in the case.

The case has raised concerns about the safety and security of individuals, particularly those in the public eye, and highlights the need for increased vigilance and awareness about the risks of honey trap and kidnapping schemes. The sentencing of the three individuals involved in the case serves as a warning to those who engage in such activities and a reminder of the consequences of such actions.
