Future F/A-XX Fighter to Boost Range

The F/A-XX's increased range and advanced capabilities will provide the US Navy with a highly effective strike fighter, capable of operating in complex environments and scenarios, with the ability to refuel and penetrate enemy airspace, making it a valuable asset for future operations.

The US Navy aims to increase the operational range of its future F/A-XX strike fighter by 25% compared to the existing F/A-18 Super Hornet fleet, with Rear Adm. Michael Donnelly announcing the plans for the sixth-generation fighter jet.

The F/A-XX is expected to have a significantly longer range than its predecessor, with a range of over 125% of the Super Hornet's current range, allowing for better flexibility and operational reach. This increase in range will be achieved despite focusing on existing propulsion technology, with the Navy also planning to equip the jet with the ability to refuel, further increasing its range.

In addition to its increased range, the F/A-XX will also feature stealthiness and artificial intelligence integration, enabling it to penetrate complex airspace and have increased battle space management. These advanced capabilities will make the F/A-XX a highly effective asset for the US Navy, with the ability to operate in a variety of environments and scenarios.

The Navy plans to begin fielding the F/A-XX in the 2030s, with Boeing and Northrop Grumman competing for the contract. As the development of the F/A-XX progresses, it is likely to play a key role in the US Navy's future operations, providing a significant increase in capability and flexibility compared to existing aircraft.
