Pakistan Braces for Continued Cold Wave, Heavy Rainfall Across Northern Regions

Updated :

A blast of cold weather swept across Karachi, bringing temperatures down to 11°C, providing relief to residents, while other parts of the country grapple with significantly lower temperatures.

Pakistan is facing a prolonged cold wave, with temperatures projected to remain between 10-12°C in cities like Karachi, as forecasted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department. This relief comes as a welcome respite for residents of the port city, which is typically known for its scorching heat during the summer months. However, this cold snap is not limited to Karachi alone, as neighboring regions, particularly Balochistan, are experiencing even colder temperatures. Quetta has recorded an astonishing -4°C, while Kalat has dropped to -6°C, highlighting the regional disparities in temperature.

The Kaghan Valley, situated in the picturesque Mansehra district, is witnessing snowfall that has both posed challenges and offered breathtaking beauty. Temperatures at Babusar Top plummeted to a chilling -7°C, underscoring the extreme conditions being faced by mountainous regions. Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to see cloudy skies with isolated rain and snowfall, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department predicting significant snowfall in these areas. The Pothohar region is also predicted to be severely affected by heavy showers over the coming days.

Much of the country is bracing for cold weather, with various regions facing different challenges. In the federal capital, Islamabad, and its surrounding areas, including Rawalpindi, Attock, and Jhelum, are forecasted to receive significant rainfall accompanied by thunder. Hill stations like Murree, Galiyat, and nearby areas are expected to see light to moderate rain and snowfall. Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Malakand, conversely, are predicted to receive rain with snowfall on higher peaks.

Overall, Pakistan is gearing up for a prolonged cold spell, with temperatures ranging from seriously cold in Balochistan and higher mountainous regions to relatively milder in cities like Karachi. With the Pakistan Meteorological Department closely monitoring the situation, residents are advised to be prepared for the conditions expected in the coming days.
