India U19 Triumphs Over Japan, Moves One Step Closer to Semifinals

Updated :

In a resounding victory, the India Under-19 cricket team crushed Japan, securing a 211-run win in the ACC U19 Asia Cup. The Indian team's batting prowess was on full display, as they chased a daunting total of 339/6 in 50 overs, fueled by an impressive 122 off 118 balls from Mohamed Amar, the captain. A strong performance by Ayush Mhatre with 54 off 29 and KP Karthikeya's 57 off 49 balls further solidified their dominance.

The Japanese team, however, failed to mount an effective challenge, as they were bowled out for 128/8 in 50 overs. Hugo Kelly led the Japanese inning with a top score of 50, but it proved to be insufficient in the face of a spirited Indian bowling display. Led by the wickets of Karthikeya, Hardik Raj, and Chetan Sharma, the Indian bowlers ensured that the momentum remained firmly on their side.

The win lifted India's net run rate (NRR) to +1.680 and preserved their third spot in the group, behind Pakistan and the UAE. They will next face the UAE in their upcoming match on Wednesday, with the top two teams from each group clawing their way to the semifinals on December 6. This match holds significant importance for India, as it requires a strong performance to secure a spot among the top two teams in the group.

India's Under-19 captain Mohamed Amar put on a commendable show by leading his team to a remarkable 259/6 against Japan, marking the second-highest score by an Indian captain in an Under-19 ODI, further demonstrating his growing stature on the field.
