17-Year-Old Arrested for Hoax Bomb Threats to Air India, Other Airlines

Updated :

A 17-year-old boy from Chhattisgarh has been taken into custody by the Mumbai Police for allegedly making hoax bomb threats to several airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, Air India Express, Akasa Air, and Alliance Air, causing disruptions to at least 19 flights and affecting international routes. The Mumbai Police are questioning the teenager and his parents, while the airline industry is looking to tighten security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

The teenager allegedly created a fake X account in his friend's name and posted bomb threats that delayed or diverted flights, causing significant disruptions to the airline industry. The hoax threats have a significant impact on airline finances, and authorities must take them seriously.

The Delhi Police also registered several FIRs in connection with the threats, and the matter was discussed in a Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting. Aviation officials briefed the committee that some suspects have been identified. The Parliamentary Committee is likely to continue its investigation into the matter.

The recent surge in hoax bomb threats is not the first of its kind in India, with each airport having a Bomb Threat Assessment Committee to assess and address threats. Passenger safety and security measures are taken, including offloading passengers, screening luggage, and searching the plane.

As the investigation unfolds, it is likely to reveal more details and motives behind the teenager's actions, and the airline industry will continue to work on tightening security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
