Misuzulu Zulu's Wedding Saga Unfolds

Updated :

The wedding of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini to his third wife, Nomzamo Myeni, has been cancelled at short notice amid a complicated web of marital disputes and palace intrigue, highlighting deeper problems within the Zulu royal family.

The cancellation comes on the heels of a court ruling that dismissed an application by the King's first wife, Queen Ntokozo Mayisela, to halt the ceremony, citing the King's alleged plans to commit bigamy. However, in a surprising turn of events, the King has now cancelled the wedding, and also fired his spokesperson, Prince Simpiwe Zulu, and requested that the province strip Myeni of her benefits. This move has sparked controversy and raised questions about the King's intentions and the state of his relationships with his wives.

The Zulu King's marriage to his first wife was a civil union, while his second wife, Queen Nozizwe Mulela-Zulu, was a traditional union. The status of his marriage to his first wife is now under question, as the couple had reportedly agreed to convert it to a traditional union but never did. The King has also filed court papers to divorce one of his three wives, who is contesting the divorce. Cultural expert Professor Gugu Mazibuko believes that an intervention is necessary to address the deeper problems within the Zulu royal family.

The role of the Zulu King is largely ceremonial, but he holds significant influence and a multi-million dollar government-funded budget. The recent developments in the royal family have sparked criticism over the King's decisions, including the suspension of the Ingonyama Trust and the firing of close aides. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the Zulu royal family will navigate these challenges and what the implications will be for the kingdom.
