Manchester United has advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup after a thrilling 5-3 penalty shootout win over Arsenal, with goalkeeper Altay Bayindir being hailed as a hero for his crucial saves, including stopping penalties from Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz.

The match, which finished 1-1 after extra time, saw United take the lead through Bruno Fernandes' curling effort in the 52nd minute, only for Arsenal to equalize 10 minutes later with a deflected shot from Gabriel. Despite having a man advantage after Granit Xhaka's red card, Arsenal were unable to capitalize on their chances, with Bayindir making several crucial saves to deny them. The Turkish goalkeeper, who has faced criticism over his ability since joining United in September 2023, proved his worth in the penalty shootout, saving spot kicks from Odegaard and Havertz to help his side advance.

United boss Ruben Amorim praised Bayindir's resilience and determination, saying his life can change quickly in football. The goalkeeper's performance was also lauded by United captain Bruno Fernandes, who described him as "top class" in training, and former England striker Alan Shearer, who called him "absolutely outstanding". Joshua Zirkzee scored the winning penalty for 10-man Manchester United, securing their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The draw for the next round will be made later on Sunday evening.

The defeat was a bitter pill for Arsenal to swallow, with captain Martin Odegaard missing a penalty in the shootout and manager Mikel Arteta describing the loss as a "one-in-a-thousand occurrence". Despite the setback, Arteta's side will look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures, while United will be buoyed by their FA Cup win and the heroic performance of their goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
