IPL 2025 Mega Auction to Take Place in Jeddah on November 24-25

Updated :

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has announced that the mega auction for the 2025 season will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24-25. This biennial auction comes as a reset for the teams, allowing them to retain a maximum of six players and rebuild their squads.

A total of 1,574 players have registered for the auction, including 1,165 Indians and 409 overseas players. However, the final list of players will be shorter after consultations between the IPL and franchises. The IPL has allocated 204 slots to be filled, with overseas players limited to eight per team, enabling a diverse pool of players to participate. As previously announced, each team can have a maximum of 25 players.

It's anticipated that high-profile Indian players such as Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer, along with overseas players like David Warner and Jos Buttler, will be part of the auction, contributing to an exciting bidding process. Kolkata Knight Riders are also eyeing artistically talented Indian pacer, Arshdeep Singh, after his release from Punjab Kings. With a crucial role in India's T20 World Cup 2024 win, Arshdeep is sought-after by KKR to secure a top-order batsman equalization to support Sunil Narine.

Ten franchises are participating in the auction, with a collective expenditure of around ₹641.5 crore. Currently 46 players have been retained, and the teams will aim to splash their cash to bolster their squads. The Rajasthan Royals have the smallest purse of ₹41 crore, while Punjab Kings have the largest, ₹110.5 crore.

The IPL 2025 auction promises to be a thrilling biennial spectacle, witnessing a comprehensive overhaul of the teams' rosters. The excitement among fans and the 10 participating franchises is palpable, as they eagerly await the roster mechanism in the city of Jeddah, from November 24-25.
