Punjab Honhar Laptop Scholarship Launched by Maryam Nawaz
In a ceremony at the University of Sargodha, Maryam Nawaz, the Chief Minister of Punjab, launched the Honhaar Scholarship Programme, aimed at providing financial assistance to students, and emphasized the importance of fact-checking and respecting national institutions.
During her address, Maryam Nawaz criticized violent and disruptive politics, stating that politics is a service to the people, and warned against political actions that incite harm or violence. She specifically criticized PTI's political actions, mentioning her own experiences in jail with Nawaz Sharif during the tenure of the PTI government. The Chief Minister also handed over cheques worth Rs 70 million to 1,588 students and announced that her government would provide loans to children so that they don't become a burden on their parents.
The Honhaar Scholarship Programme has seen an increase in the number of scholarships, now covering 50,000 students across 68 disciplines, including those from private universities. Maryam Nawaz urged students to pursue education in emerging fields like artificial intelligence, robotics, and environmental sciences, which offer immediate employment opportunities. She also announced a project to distribute 100,000 free e-bikes to students next year and encouraged students to stay vigilant and avoid being misled by those who incite violence or vandalism.
The Chief Minister's commitment to education and the youth is evident in her government's initiatives, including the completion of the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology in Sargodha by December 31, 2025, with the facility expected to cost Rs 8.84 billion. Maryam Nawaz's message to the students and the nation emphasizes the importance of respecting national institutions and symbols, and her government's focus on expanding scholarships and employment opportunities for the youth.
