Cricket Australia's Trophy Snub Sparks Outrage

Updated :

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his discontent with Cricket Australia's decision to exclude him from the presentation of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to the Australian team captain, Pat Cummins, after Australia's series win over India. Gavaskar felt that as the eponym of the trophy, he should have been involved in the presentation, regardless of the outcome.

Gavaskar's disappointment is not limited to the trophy ceremony, however. He has also questioned the performance of the Indian coaching staff, alleging that they failed to improve the batting skills of the team despite having two to three months to prepare for the England series. The former cricketer believes that the coaches, including the head coach, batting coach, assistant coach, fielding coach, and bowling coach, should be held accountable for their role in the team's underwhelming performance. He noted that the team's batting, in particular, was not strong enough, and that the coaches should have worked on improving the players' technique and temperament.

Gavaskar pointed out that Cricket Australia's decision to not invite him to present the trophy was not only a mistake but also a sign of disrespect. He emphasized that the coaches should have been responsible for preparing the players better, and that simply throwing balls would not be enough to improve the team. The cricket legend stated that it was the coaches' job to make the players capable of performing well, not just to throw balls and provide vague instructions.

The decision not to invite Gavaskar to present the trophy has sparked controversy, with many questioning the decision-making process. Cricfem Ladies organization made clear to senior cricketers that they have the right to host in either derivatives and curators.
