Guyana Amazon Warriors Announce Squad for GSL 2024
Guyana's top cricket team, the Guyana Amazon Warriors, have revealed their squad for the inaugural Global Super League (GSL) 2024. The team will compete against four other teams at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, starting November 26 and concluding on December 7.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors have a strong line-up that includes international stars like Imran Tahir, Moeen Ali, Shai Hope, and Shimron Hetmyer. This trio impressed fans and coaches alike during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, where they achieved seven wins out of ten matches. The CPL 2024 champions will be looking to continue their strong performance in the GSL. Their squad also features Dwaine Pretorius, Hassan Khan, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Keemo Paul, Romario Shepherd, Roston Chase, Mark Deyal, Kevlon Anderson, and Shamar Springer.
Concurrently, a recently concluded match between Barbados and England has generated significant interest in the cricket world. Barbados performed impressively in the third One Day International (ODI), with Windies seamer Forde hailing the pitch as "sticky" and slow. The agile wicket required players to rapidly adapt, as they had to incorporate cutters into their game to achieve success. Forde, who contributed significantly to the series win by being named Player of the Series, expressed his gratitude towards the collective efforts of his teammates. The Caribbean contingent, led by Keacy Carty and Brandon King, ultimately secured the series, beating England 2-1 in the final game played at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.
Some attention has also turned towards the Global Super League 2024 with the announcement that Derbyshire's director of cricket Mickey Arthur has signed two county players, Devon Conway and George Ell, for the Rangpur Riders. As Guyana Amazon Warriors prepares to begin their title chase, this move provides a new angle to follow in the upcoming GSL. By incorporating established international stars, along with newcomers like Devon Conway and George Ell, it appears to signal a promising year for the Global Super League.
